Waste Characterization

Waste Characterization

Peak’s technical experts, led by a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), routinely identify, characterize and manage solid and liquid waste streams, including hazardous waste, associated with remediation projects, construction projects, industrial facilities, commercial operations, and other sources. Overlapping state and federal waste regulations, and facility specific requirements require a waste characterization plan that satisfies each level. Peak’s experts develop waste plans that satisfy applicable regulations, and ensure that proper recordkeeping, documentation, and reporting are understood and completed for hazardous and non-hazardous wastes. Peak maintains a network of qualified, insured and licensed providers to remove wastes and transport them to their final destination.  Waste characterization is an important component of the following project types.

    • Soil and groundwater remediation with disposal or recycling
    • Facility waste streams, process dismantling, remediation, and capital improvement projects
    • Beneficial Use Determinations
    • Linear Construct Projects
    • Material Acceptance Plans
    • Concrete Re-use
    • Material Characterization Plans
    • Historic Fill investigations
    • Construction Site Services

Additionally, Peak can assess whether listed hazardous waste can be “delisted” and disposed of as non-hazardous waste. Peak can also evaluate a facility’s hazardous waste generator identification to determine the appropriate generator status, and utilize Episodic Generation Permits to reduce the regulatory burden associated with Large Quantity Generator status.
