In-situ Remediation Technologies
In-situ Remediation Technologies
Active remediation is typically required to remediate high level contamination or when a receptor has been or will be impacted by a release. At many properties, access to contamination for active remediation is restricted by site features, there is insufficient space to conduct remedial actions, or remediation activities will disrupt or stop facility operations. In addition, contamination may be relatively deep or have a relatively large footprint, both of which can limit the viability of conventional remediation methods. As a result, remediation technologies capable of treating contamination in place have been developed and improved over the last several decades, making these technologies viable, cost effective alternatives for contaminated soil, groundwater and vapor.
In-situ remediation consists of multiple versions biological, physical/chemical, and thermal remediation technologies applied directly to a defined subsurface zone to break down, remove or stabilize the contaminants. When Peak’s Remedial Alternative Selection (RAS) process identifies in-situ as the most cost-effective option, our remediation professionals consider contaminant type, sample data, subsurface physical characteristics, and property layout to select the best in-situ alternative, or combination thereof, for each project. Peak has expertise and experience in the following technologies.
Physical/Chemical
-
- Soil Vapor Extraction
- Sub-Slab Depressurization
- Chemical Oxidation
- Soil Flushing
- Solidification/Stabilization
Biological
-
- Bioventing
- Aerobic Augmentation
- Anaerobic Augmentation
- Natural Attenuation
- Phytoremediation
Thermal
-
- Electrical Resistance Heating (ERH)
- Steam Injection
- Conductive Heating
