Peak Environmental, A Nova Group, GBC Company was retained by a premier developer to support their acquisition and redevelopment of a 32-acre corporate campus in Bergen County, NJ that was recently vacated by a global automobile manufacturer. Peak performed pre-acquisition due diligence, identified environmental risks, and managed the site through each step of the NJ regulatory process – from Preliminary Assessment through Remedial Action. The property was impacted by historic fill, historic agricultural operations, and groundwater contaminants that originated from a neighboring property. Construction material issues, including concrete and asbestos, were identified in the existing buildings. Under Peak oversight, contaminated soils were consolidated and capped, and will be monitored under an NJDEP Remedial Action Permit (RAP). Asbestos was mitigated and Peak obtained a Beneficial Use Determination (BUD) approval from the NJDEP to reuse concrete from the former buildings. Peak is also designing sub-slab depressurization systems for the new buildings to manage risk from impacted groundwater.
