Financial assistance to perform remediation of contaminated and/or underutilized properties is currently available to eligible municipalities, non-profits, and private companies through the Hazardous Discharge Site Remediation Fund (HDSRF). The grants and loans provide funding for all steps in the clean-up process pursuant to New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Site Remediation Program regulations. Applicants submit a proposed project, describing information to confirm their eligibility, the technical feasibility of the remediation, and estimated costs. The HDSRF application is reviewed by the DEP and, if DEP approves the project, the NJEDA confirms eligibility, and awards the funds. Funding for recreation/conservation, renewable energy and affordable housing projects is also included. Funding can be used for environmental due diligence, investigation, and remediation of a suspected or known contaminated site, and for underutilized properties to maximize their potential economic value. More information about HDSRF and other Community Revitalization funding is available at the NJEDA.
